In the summer of 2008, Melody and Robbie from Fresh Media set out on their own culinary adventure to find the best burger on PEI. Not surprisingly, the burger they loved the most was proudly made with 100% Island Beef.
During their tasty journey, they noticed that not every restaurant identified their beef as being from PEI. When they asked servers if the beef was local, many didn't know. That's when they decided to use Fresh Media’s creative talents to develop a campaign celebrating the amazing beef we have in our own backyard, and to crown the best burger on the Island.In 2011, Fresh Media launched PEI Burger Love™ with 14 restaurants and 5,517 burgers being sold. In 2017, there were 84 participating restaurants with over 184,397 burgers sold in just one month. With these record sales comes record quantities of local Island beef consumed, with this year’s total equaling over 78,000 pounds.
Over the past seven years, there has been over $8.7 million+ in sales of just the burgers; a tremendous economic impact within our community.
Also for 2017, PEI Burger Love added a new initiative for 'Give Back Burgers' where many of the participating restaurants proudly donated $1 for each PEI Burger Love burger they sold in April to support food security on PEI.
In partnership with the United Way of PEI, Give Back Burgers raised over $60,000 in 2017 that helped fund grant programs to increase access to local and affordable food for Islanders.
